Nicholson A8 Debarker Goes Into Production In Australia

The first Nicholson A8 tandem debarker in Australia was started up at Auspine in Mt Gambier on 6th of January, 2006.  Over a two week shut down at Christmas, the old debarker, bark waste conveyors, Bruks flare reducer and infeed equipment was removed and replaced with Wilson Engineering designed equipment.

The debarker, shipped from Canada, is the new breed in debarking technology, which gives more performance and reliability at lower costs.

This particular unit comes with a 27" air seal debarking ring and a butt flare reducer that will allow the customer to reduce oversize logs to a maximum diameter that will flow smoothly through the mill.  High feed speeds of up to 150 metres per minute are achievable depending on log size and types.  The A8 provides super fibre protection at these high feed speeds thanks to advanced feedroll, knife arm, ring, air system and control technologies all working together.

Wilson Engineering was employed by Auspine to design, manufacture, project manage and oversee the removal of the old debarker and installation of all new equipment for the project.  This included a new singulating log deck, cam loader to feed the log haul, bark waste conveyors, new support steel and platforms for the new debarker, and relocation of the existing stepfeeder.

After only one week in production, the Nicholson debarker has shown to be the correct choice for Auspine.  Management, operations and maintenance staff are impressed with the ease of operation, the full access to both sides of the debarker for servicing, the ability for future higher speed production requirements and for its debarking performance.
