Carter Holt Harvey Plywood Debarker

Over the Christmas shutdown period, Wilson Engineering Systems installed a new Nicholson 44’ A6 debarker.

Carter Holt Harvey were keen to replace their old Brunette debarker to provide greater reliability and allow the mill to debark the shorter pruned logs that are available from their forests.

The project entailed some assembly of the machine on-site, as it was too tall to be shipped in one piece. The old debarker was then removed and the new one positioned in its place. As the new machine is shorter in length than the old machine, an extra hourglass roller was also installed so that the short logs could bridge the gap.

Being a relatively simple changeover ,the job was easily completed over the Christmas/New Year period, in time for the mill to start up as scheduled on Saturday, 7th of January 2006.
